Landscape Architecture

Site Planning & Design:
Landscape Architiects at CLSI are involved in the early stages of site planning for the following reasons:

  • Evaluate prospective sites
  • Develop concepts that are both creative and environmentally considerate
  • Meet or exceed the standards of each client’s desires.

After establishing a design quality, we develop graphics to promote understanding and approval of the design concepts.  Knowledge of the zoning and site plan requirements is critical to this process and, therefore, the Landscape Architect staff works as a team with the engineers, environmental specialist and designers as the project evolves from concepts into engineered site plans.

Landscape  Design:
Landscape Design is more than just picking plants that meet the landscape requirements.

  • Landscape design begins when the roads, parking and buildings are laid out – consideration for not just how it works, but how it looks and feels.
  • Planting plays an important role in creating that look and feel.
  • CLSI uses, at a minimum, the required plantings as a means to accomplish this overall objective.
  • The staff at CLSI has the expertise and experience addressing landscape requirements in towns and counties around this region.

Park planning and Design approach:
The most important part of the design process is working directly with the client. Establishing clear lines of communication is critical to the success of the project. A planning process must be designed for the unique project needs.  As an example, a public park should have public participation.  User groups, neighbors and interested individuals should have a chance to express opinions about how tax dollars are invested.  Early community participation helps build a sense of ownership.  It also provides a basis for development priorities. Sharing in the early design phase with user groups and review agencies builds teamwork and assists in timely review and approval of the site development plans.
